Situated at 260 University Avenue in Fredericton, there exists a historical residence famously referred to as “Sunbury Cottage.” Constructed circa 1830 by the skilled carpenter Andrew Richey, this dwelling initially served as a homestead for the Richey family. Notably, Andrew Richey’s descendant, Marshall Richey, assumed the roles of a merchant and held prestigious positions as the president of both the Central Fire Insurance Company and the neighboring Fredericton Gas Works, situated at Shore Street and University Avenue. Maintaining a strong connection to the Richey lineage, Marshall’s daughter, Elizabeth Maxwell, also resided within this abode, allowing the property to remain within the Richey family for an impressive century until its sale in 1926.

However in 1963, Andrew Richey’s great-great grand-daughter Pat Forbes bought Sunbury Cottage and lived here until 2004, making it one of the longest “single family” lived-in houses in Fredericton.
